Net Zero Thurso Launches

Hello and Welcome!

My name is Kara (pronounced Kayra) and for the next 6 months I’ll be the Trusts Net Zero Graduate. In that time, I’ll be engaging with you all about everything Net Zero – from what it is, to how we can achieve it, the barriers to achieving it, what your views are, and how we are all in it together. You are not alone!

I have just finished compiling a report from the results of a survey that some of you took part in late last year. We asked you for your thoughts on Thurso’s Climate and becoming a Net Zero Town. Nearly all of you agreed that Thurso should aim to be the first Net Zero Town in Scotland, which I think is amazing and I’m excited to work with you to start making it happen. You can access the full report or the shorter report below.

I have also just recently been in touch with those of you who wish to become part of our Net Zero Working Group. This will be an informal local peer-to-peer group who will meet monthly to discuss the challenges and solutions for achieving a Net Zero Thurso. Your voice is what matters most throughout this journey and we are there to facilitate and support you. Our first meeting is at 7pm on Wednesday 25th May, at the Trust’s Office. Everyone is welcome! If you are interested, please e-mail me for more details or just come along on the day!

Coming up, we have our Climate Festival between the 25th June and the 2nd July! There will be various fun and interesting activities on throughout that time, including workshops and presentations led by myself!

Shortly after that, we will be launching our Net Zero Hero’s! Basically, we are looking for individuals, families, households of any type, to be part of a social experiment. For the first experiment, we would like you to trial growing your own food and want to know the ins and outs of the whole experience, from how difficult it is, to what you enjoyed! More details to come soon! If this sounds like something you would be interested in, then please get in touch.

Feel free to also get in touch if you have any questions! I’m looking forward to getting to know you all and working with you to aim towards making Thurso the first Net Zero Town in Scotland!

My e-mail is kara@thursocdt.co.uk
