The 29th of September was the day dedicated to the fascinating art of weaving.

Traditionally, weavers used to be male, and we were delighted that we had a mixed team of instructors for this event - great spouses Terry and Sara-Jane Hardy.

Sara-jane is a very talented and versatile artist who has been working with wool and fibres in general for several decades, and has huge wealth of knowledge to share with us. We were privileged to have her, and her student in the past, now very capable weaver himself, Terry, to lead on this event.

Our students received in-depth training on the process of weaving, but the lessons started with exciting history lesson and overview of the types of looms out there.

After theory, our students proceeded to trying their own hand at weaving on various types of weaving looms. They had a chance to choose from a range of yarns and found out how to combine warp and weft. All our wool yarn was locally sourced.

We were amazed with the progress that our participants demonstrated in such a short time - they not just nailed the technique of weaving, but also went for sophisticated patterns in their test samples, played with textures and thread thicknesses!

We truly hope that this Weaving Workshop was the first step in the long, enjoyable and rewarding journey for our students!

It was a delight to watch them at work.
