Sessions for Young People

  • Thurso Youth Club Millbank Road Thurso, Scotland, KW14 United Kingdom (map)

We are running some exciting sessions at Thurso Youth Club aimed at high school aged people (if there are any younger kids who’d like to take part please contact us so we can make sure the content is suitable for their age).

No need to book onto this, just drop in :)

2.15 - 2.30pm - We WANT to talk about GENDER

This is a short session for those who are interested in speaking to us about the topic of gender. This will be facilitated by Thurso Community Development Trust and CASWA and is to help us understand how young people feel about gender and the types of services and resources they want and need. It isn’t an informational session, just a safe, inclusive space to talk about thoughts and feelings without judgement or discrimination. Everything discussed will be treated in confidence, unless there are any concerns for wellbeing.

2.30 - 3pm - We WANT to talk about PERIODS

This is a half hour session for those who would like to chat and learn about periods. Whether you’re someone who gets a period or just wants to learn a bit about them, you are welcome to come along. This will be facilitated by Thurso Community Development Trust and Endometriosis UK. We’ll discuss period pain and how to get support for it, answer any questions and point to further resources, chat about sustainable period products and even give some products to take away if you want to try them.

3.15 - 4.15pm - We WANT to talk about FEELING EMPOWERED

A session creating vision boards with some of the CASWA team. Vision boards are a resource that CASWA use in their work with women, children and young people to reflect on what they want their life and their world to be like, to be empowered to look towards the future and live the life they want to live.

Through this session, we’ll use the time being creative to discuss what it means to be empowered and in control of our own lives and use this as the basis of discussions to talk about how abusive relationships are disempowering and have power and control at the centre.
