Learn with us how you can utilize sheep fleece in gardening projects - mulching beds and tree circles, for suppressing weeds and retaining moisture.
We will meet at Thurso Grows Community Garden and will use the sheep fleeces kindly donated to us by Emily Allsop and Fiona Macintosh (huge thanks to them!) for our gardening experimental project.
We will trial using sheep wool as mulch - it has perfect moisture retention properties, and also fully biodegradable. So, not only we are using 100% natural renewable material for our gardening project, but also we are getting benefits of slow fertilizing our soil, as the wool breaks down with time.
Sheep wool tied around the tree trunks also protects it from being nibbled by rabbits and deer - not the high risk to occur for us at the Community Garden, but we will demonstrate how to use the wool for that, for those who live in the rural areas, as well.
This event is scheduled during regular Community Garden volunteering session, and everyone is welcome to attend, without prior booking.
The event is free.
Important! Please bring your gardening gloves with you! Generally, always wear gloves with working with sheep fleece.
